In 1974 The Spoon Barbell Club was started in Richardson, TX
by Tom Witherspoon.The Club has produced many notable lifters,
including Olympians: Sam Walker (Montreal 76), Chad Vaughn
(Athens 2004, Beijing 2008). National Champions: Sam Walker,
Jim Napier, Chad Vaughn, and Master’s Lifter Gary Deal.
Most notable: The Spoon Barbell Club team placed 2nd at the 1977 Nationals.
The Spoon Barbell Club is dedicated to excellence
in the sport of Weightlifting and the building of character
and sportsmanship in the individual.
